Better Than Apple IBOOk

Stongly recommended. It also has audio function which can read book .

ibooks

Overall probably the best looking app for reading ebooks on mac, as for me it even better than official ibooks app, the only thing is when you try to turn the pages can see artifacts on mbpro retina, please fix that bug!!!

Visually Beautiful and Very Functional

I love BookReader. Its good looks and ease of use are a winner. It makes organizing all of my electronic publications a breeze. With the tagging feature, I can organize and find all of my books in a snap. Its loaded with features to personalize the way it looks and functions. It has beatiful, smooth page turning animations, a feast for the eyes!

Great program

Yes this program does what it’s supposed to, never crashes and has good graphics.

Great app!

I love your application makes reading experience much easier! Im french, so this is my main reading language. But sometimes I would read books in English, it would be great that your app has a translator be integrated into it

not that good

after update, I lost all of my books. I’d like to use iBooks or kindle instead this App, not worty to buy.

Simple and reliable little application

***A nice, simple and reliable reader that allows to highlight text. Solid.

Excellent But Needs to Open DRM encrypted ebooks

This is really an excellent ebook reader application but it is a big missing not to be capable of opening DRM ebook files. I expect the developer will make it capable of opening DRM encrypted books.

Dear developers, please add two crucial features:

1) Option to see footnotes next to the text upon click (instead of moving to footnotes section). 2) Larger book size in fullscreen mode (stretched to 100% of screen if possible). 3) Option that blocks system to turn off backlite and screen. Thank you

Good but...

… does not open some FB2 books and there is no easy way to report that.

Great application

One of the very few that do not treat a book as letters put in rows put in columns put on the screen and try to make a nice interface, and maybe the only one that actually succeeds to do so.

Excellent App

Definitely superior to Apple’s iBooks in terms of formats that can be imported, speed, and overall reliability (not to mention, highly customizable). A must have for ebook fans.

Suggestion and comments

I am using bookreader for mac since when Apple decided to change its book software to move to Apple iBooks reader. A large number of different problems have been then reported by a lot of users: basically the Apple software lacks many options that a serious book collector cannot accept. I am currently managing more than 4,300 books, all of them crafted personally the way I like to have. Bookreader for mac helped me in organizing my large collection better than the Apple “bare-bone" software. My thanks for that. However, It still miss certain options quite significant, and I would be sincerely grateful if you could revise and integrate them in a new release, even if this would imply that the software should not be given for free. I would really give five stars should the next points be solved. These are two major upgrade I would need: 1. An additional data field to record Author sort name, editable by user. (e.g. John Robert Smith should be shown as Smith John Robert). The current version does not permit it, and when you are dealing with large number of items, searching for a specific author is painful. That field should automatically translate the present name to sort name. The "author sort name" should be activated in the already existing option list. 2. An user default preference option as to change or not the title string for the entire collection (leave as it is now or consider the complete title as “sort title": the current version uses to ignore the first word of the title when it is an article, a preposition etc. This is not necessarily the way used in other languages, as it is in my Italian common use. The result is another search difficulty as in point 1. Thanks in advance for your attention. Could it be possible to hear your thinking? (Post scriptum: In the Italian version, please translate “GENRES” into “GENERE” and “TAGS” into “TAG”)

Excellent book reader and support!

The best book reader I’ve found on the Mac for ePubs! Great support from the author as well. It provides what I need, simply and elegantly, then gets out of the way. Thank you for continuing to support this app under Sierra. Raz

Good, But Lacking

Update: Ive added a star. Better stability, more versatile. BookReader is one of the better e-book readers available for the Mac. There is a lot to like, especially control of line spacing. For those who are merely reading, this is a good environment. Not being able to read DRM-crippled e-books in third party software should bother no one. Other applications are available for that purpose. However, the interface makes no provision for the user who is using e-books for reference while writing or communicating with others. The user must somehow work around the unchangeable twin page layout. Even with a large display, I find that difficult enough that I have made do with less sophisticated e-readers that at least have an option for single page display, so as to have room for the windows of several other applications. Additionally, I find it helpful, especially when making text selections, to have a scrolling mode available. This eliminates frequently having to highlight or copy part of a text, flip the page, then select and highlight or copy again. Thirdly, I prefer to have the option of ragged right with no hyphenation, which I believe makes for better eye movement and reading comprehension, not to mention aesthetics.

From 5 to 3

This program used to be a five star but then they changed it drastically with the update. The screen shots are now false advertising. There is no longer a library shelf like ibooks in the app and the second screen shot of the traditional looking book format taking up the screen is now gone as well. I wish I never upgraded.

Im upset!!!

I dont understand if I already bought this app to my mac with OS X 10.6 why I cant get update without updating to OS X 10.7???

Apples Missing ePub Reader!

Excellent app! I have itterated through so many ePub management and reading solutions over the years and find this one to be very usable. I am a software engineer and as a result need quick access to content in my vast ePub library with full features such as search, tagging, and bookmarks. This version of BookReader has all of that and more. The text is rendered well and I dont see content layout issues that other ePub readers seem to encounter. BookReader even renders the ePub covers that iTunes Books does not! Well worth the price. Thank you very much and please keep up the good work!

its Ok, but there is room for improvement

This app is OK, but its not great. Ive noticed that on some pages of books, the left pages left side gets cut off, cutting into the first letter of each line. Ive also noticed that if you star messing with the spacing preferences there is no way to reset to "default," meaning that you have to manually keep adjusting it until it looks right again (which I havent been able to do). There is a lot of potential with this app, so Im hoping future versions get better.

Worthless

Worthless Russian junk. Doesnt support DRM - Which includes almost anything you want to read. Of course it has the usual awkward Russian translations "You can drop here a new cover image for select item"
